ELIANA CONSTANTINIDOU

Partner in the Shipping Department

 

 

Eliana joined the firm in 1973 and became a partner in 1986. Before joining the firm, Eliana worked as a claims executive for a P & I club gaining valuable experience in a wide range of P & I and defence matters. On joining the firm, Eliana specialised in dry shipping law dealing predominantly with shipping disputes involving claims under bills of lading and charterparties, and in ship arrests. She took many cases to court and spoke at seminars on Cyprus admiralty practice and the arrest of ships. In 1986 she turned her attention to ship financing and since 2001 has been the head of the ship-finance department of the firm. Eliana has considerable experience in drafting and negotiating financing agreements and security documents in relation to a wide range of complex financing arrangements, particularly in relation to new buildings. She acts for banks world-wide in ship financing transactions and is also frequently instructed by various international law firms to act as their Cyprus correspondent lawyer on matters of Cyprus law. She is listed in Euromoney as one of the World’s Leading Shipping and Maritime Lawyers and features as a highly recommended shipping specialist in the Legal Business Report “European Legal Experts” and in the Practical Law Company Directory “Global Councel 3000”. Education: Eliana was called to the English Bar in 1969 (Gray’s Inn). Admitted to the Cyprus Bar in 1971.
