COMPANY/COMMERCIAL

 

The department handles a wide range of commercial disputes and has undertaken many high profile international cases, some of which have involved proceeding in more than one judgements and arbitration awards against companies and individuals with property in Cyprus. The department has handled a wide range of inter company and partnership disputes and is also experienced in dealing with administrations and liquidations.

 

ADMIRALTY

 

The firms admiralty practice has been handling court cases since the firm was first established and consequently has a wide experience in all branches of admiralty law and proceedings, both in rem and in personam. A considerable number of the leading and often cited cases in admiralty were handled by this department. The department routinely prosecutes, defends and advises upon every type of admiralty claim including collision and salvage claims, bill of lading and charterparty disputes and cargo claims on behalf of banks, P & I clubs,insurance companies(hull and machinery) and ship owners. The department also acts on behalf of banks in mortgage enforcement actions.

 

BANKING

 

Te department handles a proportion of the contentious work of the island's commercial banks and co-operative banks. This includes debt recovery, the realisation of security, the enforcement of guarantees and insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings.

 

INSURANCE AND PERSONAL INJURY

 

The firm acts for a large number of insurance companies and has considerable experience of general insurance litigation and a well established specialisation in personal injury claims arising from both road traffic and employer's liability. The department also acts for claimants where no conflict of interest exists.

 

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

 

A specialist unit made up of lawyers in the company/commercial department and the litigation department handle disputes relating to patents,trade marks,copyrights and designs. The department recently acted for a number of multinational pharmaceutical companies against local pharmaceutical manufacturers in respect of patent infringements.

 

ADMINISTRATIVE LAW

 

The department acts for a number of public utility bodies and municipalities advising them on the extent of their powers and judicial review. Members of the litigation department appear regularly before the Cyprus Supreme Court on behalf of public bodies in judicial review actions.

 

EMPLOYMENT

 

The firm's employmentlaw expertise is drawn from two departments: the company/commercial department handles the drafting and variation of employment contracts, service agreements and restrictive covenants. The litigation department deals with the contentious side of employment law and regularly appears before the Industrial Tribunal defending actions brought against employers. The deparment also acts for employees where no conflict of interest excists.

 

PRIVATE CLIENT

 

The litigation department also advises individuals on the many years of law both contentious and non-contentious affecting the affairs of individuals and their families including:

 

Family Law- the deparment deals with all legal matters relating to the family including seperation and divorce,financial disputes and settlements and custody and maintenance proceedings.

 

Probate, Inheritance and Tax- the department advises on wills, the administration of estates, tax planning and undertakes probate work.
