Chris has extensive experience in corporate and commercial matters, particularly in relation to company and business acquisitions and sales of both public and private companies, shareholder disputes, reorganizations, insolvency, and banking.
He also advises on insurance law, corporate finance, international transactions, intellectual property, energy, arbitration (international commercial arbitration), construction law, sports law, aviation law, administrative law, and taxation. He is a licensed insolvency practitioner.
Chris has assisted numerous entities, including banks, captive and general insurance companies, offshore financial services companies, international funds, and ship management companies, in establishing and operating in Cyprus. He continues to advise them on corporate matters, tax, and regulatory compliance.
He has advised foreign financiers on a wide range of issues related to foreign lending in Cyprus, particularly concerning borrowings by the Cyprus government, government institutions, municipal authorities, and local companies.
Chris contributes regularly to various legal and commercial publications, including the chapter on Cyprus in Jordan’s “International Corporate Procedures”; “Offshore Legal Opinions in Loan and Security Transactions,” published by Sweet & Maxwell; and Global Legal Insights’ “Energy,” published by the Global Legal Group.
He has assisted in drafting various Cypriot laws and regulations, with particular reference to the Cyprus Casino Law and Regulations and the Examinership Law, as well as introducing amendments to the insolvency laws of Cyprus, assisting the Government of Cyprus with the preparation of the relevant bills.
Chris has held and currently holds numerous directorships in various Cypriot and foreign companies, including banks and insurance companies. He has played and continues to play a central role in the development of sports law in Cyprus, having served for years as General Secretary of the Cyprus Football Association and later as Chairman of Anorthosis F.C. He is currently a member of the International Court of Arbitration for Sport and Chief Disciplinary Inspector of UEFA.
