Demetris has more than 35 years of experience in litigation cases, specialising in corporate and commercial disputes often involving international groups of companies.
He is the head of the firm’s litigation department.
Demetris has dealt with numerous cases with complex corporate structures and with a multiple jurisdiction aspect. Amidst the banking crisis in Cyprus in 2012-2013 and the collapse of one of the two major banks in Cyprus, Demetris was instructed to advise and bring proceedings on behalf of the failing bank against some of its ex-directors, a case which is considered one of the most high-profile cases in Cyprus. He was also appointed by the Government of Cyprus as a member of the legal team that defends Cyprus in ongoing ICSID proceedings brought against it by certain Greek shareholders with substantial participation in the failing bank.
Demetris is occasionally retained to act for listed companies and their directors and officers on various regulatory issues.
In addition, he regularly undertakes criminal law related work and has been retained to defend ex-directors and senior officers of the largest Cyprus bank in market abuse criminal cases.
Although he spends most of his time before the Courts, Demetris is often engaged in the negotiation and drafting of various types of agreements, as well as for providing opinions on issues relating to corporate and commercial law matters.
