Demosthenes is a recognized banking and finance practitioner with an additional focus on energy investment and regulation, AML procedures, and financial technology.
He specializes in advising borrowers on major cross-border syndicated loans, both internationally and locally, high-yield bond issues, and hybrid transactions. He also has a keen interest in the expanding field of energy-related projects, particularly Cyprus offshore exploration, alternative energy infrastructure, and investment. He has advised a consortium bidding in the first round of offshore hydrocarbon exploration and more recently, a UK fund regarding its investment in Cypriot wind farm infrastructure, including acquiring the island’s largest wind farm project and advising on its refinancing through a local bank.
Previously, Demosthenes served as a compliance director and has taken an interest in advising European corporations on their obligations under EU-imposed sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Demosthenes has served as a Director at the Cyprus University of Technology, a position to which he was appointed by the President of the Republic. He has also served as honorary Treasurer on the Executive Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Cyprus) and remains a member of the Board of Directors. Additionally, he is currently a Director of the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and a member of the council of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce. He is also a lead contributor to the Law Review’s “Asset Management Review.
