Yiannis has extensive experience in Corporate litigation and Admiralty & Maritime litigation.
He has been involved in various Admiralty & Maritime law disputes, either by representing clients in the Admiralty Court or by providing opinions or negotiating settlements on behalf of companies or P&I Clubs.
In addition, Yiannis frequently advises several commercial and shareholder disputes concerning Cypriot companies holding valuable assets. Many of these cases involve businesses related to gas and oil in Russia and Ukraine. He has also advised on obtaining Norwich Pharmacal and various freezing orders in Cyprus to facilitate litigation against wrongdoers in other jurisdictions.
He has defended a majority shareholder in a derivative claim filed by a minority shareholder concerning a Ukrainian public company, and one of the shareholders in a conspiracy claim filed by another shareholder of a Cypriot company of Russian interests listed on AIM. Yiannis has also advised Ukrainian banks on litigation strategies for recovering millions of U.S. dollars worth of debt through insolvency proceedings and asset-freezing orders in Cyprus.
Yiannis has successfully handled the recovery of multi-million U.S. dollar debts owed to overseas banks through the swift arrest and subsequent sale at public auction of vessels. Additionally, Yiannis frequently appears before various arbitration bodies.
