ICHAEL MCBRIDE

Michael is practising as an advocate in Cyprus for over 34 years. He joined the firm as an associate lawyer in 1985 and became a partner in 1989. Since joining the firm he has dealt exclusively with shipping, corporate and tax planning. . He advises ship-owners, ship managers and ship brokers on a wide range of issues such as sale, purchase, chartering, financing, taxation and registration of ships, negotiation of shipbuilding contracts for merchant ships and mega yachts, and regulatory compliance.

Michael has written numerous articles on shipping, and has spoken at a number of shipping seminars both in Cyprus and abroad. In addition to advising the firm’s commercial clients, Michael has also advises government and semi-governmental agencies on various aspects of shipping law, and has assisted in the drafting of most laws and regulations on Cyprus shipping, the most recent being the new Cyprus Tonnage Tax law of 2010 and its renewal in 2020.

Michael is also a special Agent of the Republic of Marshall Islands in Cyprus, and a member of the shipping committee of the Cyprus Bar Association, and the legal advisor of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber. He has gained entry within the “Leading LAWYER 100” 2011 Guide in the category of “SHIPPING & MARITIME – LEADING LAWYER 100” and is acknowledged among his peers as an expert on shipping and maritime law.
